Ok. This is a Blog, blog is just a web page where all the content is in reverse chronological order (kinda redundant: a blog in a wiki, but I'll see if this works). You may comment on posts if you like.

Baracoda Pencil is just what we need to get the UI Consumerium deserves. Great stuff by http://www.baracoda.com . Best regards to them!
http://archive.org doesn't have us indexed, but is that a bad or a good thing? I don't know. Stupid silly mistakes are forgotten, excpecially with little SQL, but on the other hand we can't track the development from the Archive later on and it's kind of annoying not to be in the archive.org.

I've noticed we don't have anything on Bluetooth. w:Bluetooth is not good and has errors. Since adaptation of Bluetooth is so crucial to our project we should have a special page just for tracking Bluetooth news.... things like Apple has integrated both WiFi and Bluetooth in their high-end PowerBook models and Sony's high-end DVs have also integrated Bluetooth.
3.6.2003 the URLs are a pain. Can you get Wikipedia-like URLs working?
http://consumerium.org/wiki/glossary for instance should just go to the wiki-editable glossary, and
- They're not a pain, they're just not like on 'pedia. It can be done with mod_rewrite (Apache module) and I'll get on it tomorrow or the day after that
http://consumerium.org/glossary should go to an approved or known/older version. Maybe 48 hours after it appears as the wiki version, it becomes the standard version, unless it changes again.
- This I don't follow. I've been thinking of setting up some static pages like "Executive Summary" and "Press releases", but there's much to wiki before this type of html-pages are a priority.

Something interesting going on at http://www1.ean-ucc.org/gdd/ (GDD == EAN.UCC Global Data Dictionary) I've just glanced at it and I'm not really sure what it really is but it's got a bunch of XML Schemas that make up maybe more then half of the markup needed for Consumerium. Keep an eye on this one, because EAN.UCC, is like big, in the area of identifying things.
Just wrote an article to http://indymedia.org . Propably a bad time due to the G8-summit going on at the moment. Also started crafting a new front page, with tables and some sort of hierarchy. This is not going to be an easy one, but the current front page is not good.

Today I heard on BBC World service that you can get the best profit margins in which continent? Surprise (or is it?)... Africa(!).

THE LAST EDIT BY ME WAS NOT BY ME! FUCKING SPOOFERS. I'LL DO A TRACEROUTE FROM WHERE I WAS ON 27.5.2003. to our serv and narrow down the possible offenders, though the password could have been compromised earlier on and I basically guess which company I can thank for this shit. Well, I changed my pass now...
27.5.2003 Country side was lovely.
- where do consumers meet and talk together ? You know, I have an old memory. I was working in an organic farm during summer...counting on my fingers...14 years ago (whaouuu...I feel "old"). The moments I loved the most were
- weeding some chinese vegetable or picking up tiny vegetables (potatoes). We were two people sitting in a row next to each other, chatting for hours about...why, when, how...our fingers were busy, and without thinking, we went to our business. So we could chat...and sometimes picked up a worm or an insect
- the farmer's market. Where you buy w:local food. Early, we left in the truck. First we had restaurant people, they were often in a hurry. Did not talk much. Then, we had the HouseElves, always cravings for chit chat. Part of our business :-). Later, we had the tourists, the wanderers. Chatting too. Last, we had the poors. Often, they felt guilty, and they hid themselves. I would have liked them to be the free consumers, but, I was not the boss. Then, we could come back. To another day of weeding, picking up and washing. Or lake swimming when it was too hot. The mature melon was so good. Such a long time ago. Farmers often talk when busy with their hands. If they have someone to talk to, poor souls.
20.5.2003 Gone to the country side to relax.
17.5.2003 I'm actually typing this in a military fort and I was a little surprised to find a connected machine at free disposal of the soldiers. I had to get up at 4 am after sleeping for 3 hours so I'm a little tired now and will get back to this on monday. Consumer Consortium == Consumerium. I like that 142.177.X.X :)
16.5.2003 I run into Brion on IRC the other day and explained our need to have m:Geospatial reference so he started the page on Meta and hopefully someone will come up with a syntax that we can agree on and maybe one day it'll be implemented, which would be great for Consumerium. I'm off to do a few days of military service now. Back on monday, have a nice weekend you all.
10.5.2003 Ehlo from w:Espoo. I should be back on my ADSL next week. Throat still sore.
9.5.2003
I've had a slightly sore throat for sometime now and I'm trying to get over that so I can get back to some serious contributing. It seems that everyone is more interested in writing fancy declarations and describing elaborate concepts then getting down to the "real" work of specifying software components, which I understand because the one taking charge of the software development will have to face the issue of making it secure, which is stressful.
7.5.2003
You know what? I'm going to sleep now.
6.5.2003
Ok. Recovered from the previous. I took some time off from work and I'm in w:Helsinki now to see some friends and relax. I will of course try to contribute as much as I can, but I'm currently under a lot of mental strain in my private life, so I'm not so efficient at the moment.
30.4.2003
Good Walpurgis Day (Vappu in Finnish, the celebration of students and workers in Finland) everybody. I'm going to get just totally drunk in Raisio today and I'll propably continue the same tomorrow since it's a national tradition in Finland and it's good fun as well :)

I just stumbled upon http://www.vrxml.org, (Vendor Reporting...) I really can't figure out what it like _really_ is but at first glance it seems to be some effort by NYSE so standardize vendor contact information, which would be kind of nice if it pulled through, because then we could use VRXML (or just make our XML compatible to it) to identify companies, their subdivisions and contact people withing companies (For arranging feedback and up-to-date company info and such)
I don't know exactly what they (NYSE) mean by vendor or why they want monthly reports of inventory. I don't see how it should intrest a stock exchange what is the inventory of some company... I mean that if the inventory goes down, then liquid assets usually go up and vice-versa, so what does that have to do with trading stocks??
From there on I followed some link and found out that there is an w:ISO standard for identifying subdivisions of countries (States, Provinces and such): ISO 3166-2 Codes for the representation of names of countries and their subdivisions -- Part 2: Country subdivision code
The bad news is that a copy of the standard costs CHF 194,00, which is a lot of money and I personally am so broke at the moment and if I got some I would buy a bluetooth phone, so I could connect to the net, when I'm away from my ethernet. I guess we'll just have to use Wikipedia to get country divisions.
- do you plan geographical identification to be only per country ?
- Noooo. We'll implement identification of multiple overlapping geographical areas. Mainly country, province village (includes cities), ecoregion and the joins of the before mentioned (eg. Some countries form an free trade area). If I'm missing something essential, please add it.
Yeeees. The new Safari update finally arrived. Tabbed browsing is very nice.
Oh Noooo. I'm so convinced that my system is compromised, not the one running the wiki, but my iBook. I just have to hope that the firmware is still good, so reinstalling the OS will cure the problem:
bash-2.05a$ cat subscriptions.xml bash: lcat: command not found
If someone knows if there is a hotkey to put a password lock on in Mac OS X, please let me know. I dislike going to System Preferences all the time to turn screen saver locking on and off.
- sorryyyyy, still on 9. Good night.
28.4.2003
Today I have burn-out and I don't have the strength to read through your todays contributions or to contribute myself. I hope to get myself together soon and join the effort again. I'll read through the new material soon.
25.4.2003
Back on ADSL. Houston we have a problem: I have to admit that I would lie to keep a job if I really needed it and I imagine there are lots of other people that would do the same. I would even lie not to make my employer look bad and thus decrease the livelyhood of my fellow employees.
23.4.2003
Helo. I'm in w:Tampere now. I stumbled upon this internet bus that is a free service provided by the library of tampere :) Respect to library of tampere. I just wrote a stub on Consumerium:Philosophy, alert the hordes of trolls.
16.4.2003
I'm going away to the country side to relax and enjoy the quitness over Easter, so please don't vandalise anything while I'm gone and if you do it won't last that long. mysqldump rules ok. Have a nice Easter you all. Oh, and I grabbed also a copy of http://meta.wikipedia.org so I'll have a good idea where should we target our efforts there when I get back.
I appologise for being so immature as to get all worked up by some advanced Troll. Now I'm finally off to the woods to contemplate on the meaning of Easter.

Wrote an small article on Consumerium in Wikipedia. Next I'll go for gross overlinking from anything and everything and meaningless minor edits to w:Consumerium to keep it popping up in Recent Changes. hehhehheehheehheehh *grin*
- Paul R. Lees-Haley's description of how scares are caused is interesting in context of consumerium - because, people will try to influence buying with phony scares, so how does consumerium ensure information is accurate or balanced properly?
14.4.2003
Excellent additions at XML/DTD by some IP. Especially the stuff on w:ecoregion. Also go see responsible shopper it's really convergent with our goal. We should contact them to discuss synergy matters.
Some stats from analog:
13: 3.23%: 286: 3.29%: 2.423: 3.37%: googlebot.com
Some fanatic w:Internet Troll from 142.177.X.X (which seems to be in Canada) is really wearing me out. This troll is very advanced: cross-defining terms mixed with useful input mixed with malformed grammar mixed with links to strange discussions and very talented in getting pseudo-offended when I reverse edits.
7.4.2003
Ok. Back online with my most trustworthy operator and I changed my pass also so there shouldn't be anymore severe security breaches like the f***ing vandalists who tinted the 0.1 logo centre yellow, which was really offensive and pissed off lots of ppl. If someone has GIMP and an idea for logo 0.3 it's most welcome. Must sleep now.
2.4.2003
Today I'm in w:Helsinki now and I can't get access to freenode network from the local irc client here :( Maybe in future we set up an IRC channel #consumerium on freenode, but it's not a priority at the moment.
All the features should have names and their own dedicated page. I'll get on that.
Maybe we should have some products to play around with to illustrate the features, so here is an tomato
27.3.2003
Here is an interesting article providing some serious critique of using structured document to represent human knowledge. I've been very tempted to mix XML with some heavy Wiki for Consumerium before, but this makes it even more attractive.
- Foundation ontology questions? Very sticky. Start with ecology, harder to go wrong.
24.3.2003
Here is a link http://www.xml.com/pub/a/2003/03/19/standards.html to an interesting article. Dimitri Dimitriatis seems to have a clear perception of the need to identify the software components involved in web services. If the server and client components are GPL'd then there is no guarantee that the components function as specified in the "official" specification. Or is there? Wondering....
21.3.2003
Ok. I'm going to Helsinki for the weekend, so please don't vandalise Consumerium while I'm gone. I'm taking a database dump with me, so I'll upload my edits on Sunday if I'm not too lazy/drunk on the weekend to do some work.
21.3.2003
Today I'm mostly creating stubs for describing different features and their implementation in detail. Most feature pages are also used for laying out basic design principles. I'm starting with the simplest features and then working on to the more complex ones, so I can link the complex ones to the simpler ones which they build on.
20.3.2003
Today I'm thinking about campaigns, they can be calls for boycott or endorsment. They can be targeted at individual products product groups, brands, companies, corporations, supply chains or areas. Areas can be provinces or countries. It just seems that the nation state is a little unprecise for an campaign, but I don't have a better nominator for campaigning. Boycotting capital would be a really nice feature, but it's utopia at the moment. There are numerous reasons why tracking capital is so difficult that it's not feasible.
I'll get started on including markup for locations in wikipedia soon. It' just a really demanding task even just to write a good article and wikitech-l post about it so the idea woun't get torpedoed immediatelly.
19.3.2003
Really tired today, so not doing much
18.3.2003
I've been thinking about why on earth doesn't w:HTML or w:XHML contain tags or meta-tags for connecting a document to a point (or an area) on earth.
- ecoregion DTD is good place to start.
This would be supergroovy if search engines supported searching for words with results ordered by physical location (very heavy search indeed, I've studied a course on GIS, and even done some work in that area, and I can tell you that multiple 1-dimensional search keys in relational algebra (that's like what the RDBMS translates SQL into before it is executed) is a picnic compared to even simplified 2-dimensional indexes, let alone if we want accurate real world 3d indexing (Buildings etc. have multiple floors you know.))
Now I have just one thought. Forget the web, let's do it for Wikipedia and the rest of the Web can catch up someday, maybe.
Throw in a standardised way of marking times up and voila: We have spatio-temporal data, that can be grouped and searched in numerous ways, if someone just coded the search engine and if we had some spare processing power for this tedious task.
- spacetime DTD is doing this
- p2pmap also is thinking of adopting it
- Thanks, I did. Mostly things already discussed but useful here for those who read this blog.
- Is there going to be a way to govern this thing other than talking to you on a blog? I like 'leverage points' as used on meta.wikipedia.org to watch/steer wikipedia project - very low-overhead, based on ecology model. Very applicable here as you try to change resourcing, production, distribution, consumption, and waste systems. Also see Jim Moore on 'assembly rules' for the 'second superpower'.
- Well it seems we need something like w:Wikipedia:Village pump. Must think of a name for it.
