Charitable contributions are done by some companies to some communities. Social services are external to their business and the companies do not get any financial compensation for the services provided. This is a good way of doing PR and getting positive press coverage. There is the hazard of Social Greenwash wherein a company tries to hide it's bad sides by making voluntary contributions and making a lot of noise about them.
