False community

False community is the belief in a community of those who do not mutually protect or benefit each other: Virtual community is the most obvious example. So is racist distinctions in very unequal groups where those in power use race as a way to prevent those of the same race but with less power from realizing their problem is "their own" not the other.

No body benefits from false community except those who have generated it. In commerce, false community is usually called brand management and it focuses on creating a false community among all consumers of one brand name.
