The bad example is completely true, despite the false statement in the log - see [[Talk:Wikimedia corruption]]. It's entirely true to say that: Some, e.g. [[Wikimedia]], refuse to have such a [[board]], loading it instead with insiders, i.e. from Bomis. One reason to avoid having such a board is to ensure that "friendly" people are in charge if their pet projects are someday audited. Very reasonably, most people refuse to contribute large amounts to such groups who avoid scrutiny of truly independent directors. Facts: - "[[Wikimedia]]" has got a few tens of thousands of dollars while well run projects with credible independent boards, like [http://rosettaproject.org Rosetta Project], get millions to do similar work (like its [[all-language dictionary]] more effectively - clearly Davis, Shell and Wales are "friendly" and that's why they're the majority on this "board" - Wales has refused for YEARS to even consider an independent board, having been forced to hold elections by many people he can't run the project without, but having originally proposed to simply appoint the whole board himself. ----------------- Candidates for [[Consumerium Governance Organization]] board might include: [[Richard Stallman]] (founder) OR [[Eben Moglen]] (General Counsel, [[Free Software Foundation]]) and Professor of Law & Legal History Columbia Law School, 435 West 116th Street, New York, New York 10027 voice: 212-854-8382 fax: 212-854-7946 Email: moglen@columbia.edu [[Marianina Olcott]] Associate Professor/Humanities Program Coordinator Humanities Department San Jose State University One Washington Square San Josι, California USA, 95192 - 0092 Bldg FO 118 Email: molcott@email.sjsu.edu Phone: 408-924-4455 Fax: 408-924-4576 [[Paul Jones]] (http://www.ibiblio.org/pjones/) (Vitae (http://www.ibiblio.org/pjones/Vitae.html)) Director, the iBiblio (http://www.ibiblio.org) digital archive at UNC Chapel Hill (http://www.unc.edu) Founding board member of [[The American Open Technology Consortium]] (http://www.aotc.info/) Member, board of trustees, Chapel Hill Public Library (http://townhall.townofchapelhill.org/library/) Email: paul_jones@unc.edu Phone: 919-962-7600 Fax: 919-962-8071 CB #3456, Manning Hall UNC-Chapel Hill Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27599-345 [[Lawrence Lessig]], founder [[Creative Commons]] and Professor of Law Stanford Law School Crown Quadrangle 559 Nathan Abbott Way Stanford, CA 94305-8610 voice: (650) 725-2565 Email: lessig@pobox.com [[Ward Cunningham]] Refined [[wiki]] [[group editing]] into present form from prior "repository" and "intranet" tools 7830 SW 40th Avenue Portland, Oregon 97219 Phone: 503-245-5633 Email: ward@c2.com AVOID: [[James Wales]], [[Howard Rheingold]], [[Sunir Shah]], [[Daniel Mayer]], [[Erik Moeller]], [[Tim Starling]], [[Angela Beesley]] or any other [[virtual community]] fanatic believer, nor any participant in [[sysop vandalism]] of [[GFDL corpus]], [[libel]] or [[perjury]] and so on.
