Here is an idea:  if you play this game or one like it, then, every time you enter a participating [[friendly retail]] location, you encounter a [[friendly troll]] in the game.  The [[troll]] tells you things about various products in the store.  Since your [[mobile phone]] is the device you use to [[scan barcode]]s, the game can figure out if you are buying good things or not.  The troll tells you whether the things are good or not:  [[green light]] products make him more friendly and he fights on your side.  [[Red light]] products make him mad and eventually he fights *you*.  So if you play the game the best thing you can do is to find all the green light products and feed them to the troll via barcode.

This doesn't require you to buy the products, just find them.  That educates the users, and gives them an advantage in the game.
