An ecolabel is a standard label indicating some certification has been passed. In terms used by Consumerium itself, it is effectively is a "green light" for those persons who follow its guidelines.

An active movement to define and standardize and certify ecolabels has been going on for at least eight years, in parallel to efforts like Consumerium. It's actually a tragedy that terminology was not standardized much earlier, so that these efforts could have found each other and coordinated better.

There are associations promoting ecolabels in most developed countries.
