The supply chain goes from extraction to distribution of products. (It is like the food chain in ecology). the company looking at all the services it requires from others in order to serve its own customers. See also value chain and inventory. Industrial ecology is about matching supply chains up to minimize the total materials waste and energy use by all businesses involved.
