The crappy logo on the upper left side is v0.2 by Juxo, and I guess it's under GFDL too since it says so on the bottom of the page.

It's from the Mandelbrot fractal, as you've propably guessed.

I'm not really mathematically inclined so I can't give you coordinates where to find this shape, but it's the third "C" shape when zooming left of the center.
