New try at the upgrading. I thought that the [[test wiki]]'s inconsistent state could be due to that the shared tables need to be disabled during the upgrade or there will be trouble. So I made a copy of the shared tables and uploaded them into the test wiki before running the upgrade and the test wiki got up just fine. Now that I have tested that [[mw:Extension:Wikibase]] works in the test wiki and editing and uploading work on both wikis I'm happy to say that the wiki family is happily at the newest [[Mediawiki]] version 1.33

Cost of running them went substantially down and resources went up. The only negative thing about the new server is that the hosting company does not use renewable electricity, but the fact that the data center has ground water cooling mitigates this a bit as it saves a lot of electricity.
