"View source" shows the HTML source not the wikitext source. That latter is the actual "original". Being forced to pick out the crappy mediawiki user interface from the text is exactly what the GFDL is designed to prevent...

And "edit this page" doesn't work from blocked IP ranges.

And none of this has anything to do with XML dumps, but with meeting the GFDL terms.
