State services are those service economy elements provided by nation-states. They usually include things like meat inspection, produce grade, pesticide control, and GMO labels where such apply. In the pre-globalization economy, these were normally assumed in the definition of a "product". Under globalization, this is impossible since goods may come from anywhere and be subject to extreme variances in these basic services that are usually safety-critical.

Such services augment nature's services in providing the initial production.

Note: this is distinct from the idea of the private service sector.
