Local purchasing is a buying criteria that would prefer sourcing things closer to things further in buying choices. That is, a higher price premium is acceptable in local products than in those that are less local.

Sometimes a tax free zone is created so that strictly local exchanges of products are not taxed, further reducing the price gap required to motivate someone to buy local.

Local buying is considered a main goal of moral purchasing projects, e.g. Slow Food. See w:local purchasing.
